Animal welfare during transport and slaughter – hot topics 2024

The HSA is holding a one-day seminar highlighting current issues and latest developments.

Cost:                  £195.00 (£145 for students and non-wage earners)

 

Topics will include:

  • Legislative updates to include: two-legged catching of poultry; live exports; and farmed fish. Andrew Voas
  • SAWC Scotland abattoir survey. Ellie Wigham
  • The H2H poultry killing device. Joe Anzuino
  • Nitrogen foam for depopulation. Jess Martin
  • Livestock transport in cassettes from islands to mainland. Simon Turner
  • Temperature-controlled transport of poultry. Peter Kettlewell
  • Alternatives to CO2 stunning for pigs. Huw Golledge
  • guidance on slaughter of farmed fish
  • updates on HSA international projects.

 Other topics (subject to confirmation):

  • provision of local and private kill facilities in Scotland;
  • welfare in commercial fishing.

 A chaired panel discussion will follow the presentations.

Registration

The cost of the seminar will be £195.00 (£145 for students and non-wage earners).

The registration fee includes attendance at the seminar for the day, lunch and refreshments. HSA will be following best practice and the latest COVID guidance and that of the venue. Places will be limited, so please register early to ensure your place.  Please read the terms and conditions below before registering.

Terms and conditions

  1. Full payment of the fee must be received before a delegate can be registered.
  2. Registration is for an individual, not an institution, and is not transferable, unless this has been agreed in advance with HSA. Only the person named on the booking can be admitted to the event. Please contact us before the meeting if you need to transfer a booking.
  3. Cancellation Policy
    a. If you cancel your booking:

    Time of cancellation before the event start date          Refund 
    Before 26 September 2024                                                  Full, minus £50 administration fee
    27 September 2024 or after                                                 No refund
     
    b. Where HSA is unable to hold the HSA Seminar 2024, HSA will offer a refund of the face value of the registration fee less payment processing fee deducted at time of booking, if applicable. If you cannot attend due to COVID-19 restrictions implemented by a country other than the UK please cancel your registration – the cancellation policy detailed in section (3a) above will apply. We recommend that you take out insurance to cover such an eventuality.
  4. HSA cannot accept liability for personal accidents, nor for loss of, or damage to private property of delegates, either during or directly arising from attendance at the symposium. HSA cannot accept liability for expenses incurred as a result of cancellation of the meeting such as non-refundable travel or accommodation costs. Delegates should make their own arrangements with respect to health and travel insurance.
